History of EnviroHisto

The laboratory began in 1979 as a service to the Commonwealth for testing drinking water samples for area residents. However, the laboratory expanded its services to include the isolation of Histoplasma capsulatum and Cryptococcus neoformans from environmental samples, Legionella pneumophila from air and water samples, and Cryptosporidium and Giardia from water samples. The laboratory is the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Principle Microbiology for Drinking Water and is a USEPA Certified Laboratory.
